2005 Jump River Valley

When our society was organized in 1993, our first mission was to preserve the historic Catawba Town Hall from possible demolition and to find a way for the building to again serve the community. The society's name was chosen to include the area of the north and south branches of the Jump River in Price County.

Our continuing mission has been to discover, preserve, and pass on information about the history of this area. The museum offers an extensive collection of historic exhibits concerning homemaking, schooling, logging, farming, and other aspects of life dating back to the late 1890's. A quilt made by Price County's first homemakers club, a unique stage curtain of 1950 Kennan business advertisements, art work of local artists, and a rural school setting on the stage are featured.

Work to preserve the building and other expansion projects have been funded by generous donations from the communities, fund raisers, membership fees, and several grants.

In 2005, work to renovate the lower floor was begun. This work in-progress has increased the display area, which alleviated the crowding upstairs and added room for more exhibits.

The museum, located in the Village of Catawba, is handicapped accessible, and opens the second Saturday of June, when we sponsor an all Schools Reunion. It continues to be open the second and fourth Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM until Labor Day and by appointment. Group and personal tours are available in May and until September 15.
